Questions and answers
How do I choose an HVAC provider I can trust?
Think of hiring a provider like choosing a doctor. You want clear answers before any treatment. Ask whether the provider is licensed in your state, whether they carry insurance, and whether they give a written estimate. A good provider explains the problem in plain words. Closestroughly Heating & Air connects you with independent providers in our network, but you should still compare what each one tells you.
Does Closestroughly Heating & Air do the repair work itself?
No. Closestroughly Heating & Air is a referral service. We do not repair or install anything. When you send a request, we match it with an independent local provider in our network. That provider contacts you, looks at your system, and gives you a written estimate. Referral, not repair. Any work, pricing, and warranty terms are agreed between you and the provider.
What can I safely check myself before calling someone?
A few simple checks are fine, like looking at a pet hair clog the way you would check a clogged drain. Make sure the thermostat is set right and has fresh batteries. Check that the breaker has not tripped. Replace a dirty air filter. Stop there. Opening panels, handling refrigerant, or touching wiring is risky and should be left to a licensed provider.
Why does my air conditioner run but blow warm air?
An AC moves heat out of your home, much like a sponge carries water away. If something blocks that job, the air stays warm. Common causes include a dirty filter, a frozen coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failing part outside. Some of these are simple fixes and some are not. A local provider can find the cause and explain your options.
How much does AC or furnace repair usually cost?
Costs vary a lot by job. In the U.S., small repairs often run from about $150 to $600, while larger parts can cost more. Full replacement is often several thousand dollars. Your home, the part needed, and the equipment all change the price. Always ask for a written quote and compare it before you agree to any work.
How can I prevent breakdowns before summer or winter?
A system works like a car, and it runs better with regular care. Change filters on schedule and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and debris. After wildfire smoke seasons, check your filter sooner. Many providers offer a yearly tune-up for heating and cooling. A tune-up can catch worn parts before they fail on a hot or cold day.
When is replacement smarter than repair?
Picture an old car that needs one costly fix after another. At some point, a new one makes more sense. If your system is old, breaks often, or the repair quote is a large share of a new unit's price, replacement may be worth discussing. Ask the provider to explain both paths with written numbers, so you can decide calmly.
Will my insurance pay for HVAC repair?
It depends on your policy and the cause. Some policies may cover sudden damage, but normal wear and age are often not covered. Check your policy or ask your insurer before work begins. Providers can often help document damage for a claim, such as with photos and written notes. Closestroughly Heating & Air cannot say what your policy will or will not cover.
